In my undergraduate thesis, I used two-photon calcium imaging to investigate functional neural network topology in developing Mecp2-deficient murine cortical cultures, a model of Rett Syndrome (RTT). Topological changes were discovered in the Mecp2-deficient cultures, which may indicate a mechanism underlying aberrant neural network processing in this RTT model. These network-level changes can be used to test in vitro potential restorative treatments.
